Moscenicka Draga is the beach settlement at the bottom, a bay of pale shingle at the mouth of a valley coming down off Ucka, and Moscenice is the old village on the ridge about 170 metres above it - a walled stone settlement with a square, a church and lanes barely wide enough for two people, which was the actual community while the shore below was just where the boats were kept. The two are joined by an old stepped path, the stubica, of several hundred steps, which is walked up for the view and down for the swim. An olive oil mill in the upper village is open as a small museum.

What you actually see

  • A pale shingle bay - at the mouth of a valley off Ucka.
  • A walled village on the ridge - the older settlement above.
  • A stepped path between them - several hundred steps of stubica.
  • An old oil mill - open as a museum in the upper village.

When to go

May to September. Half a day.

Honest expectations

The steps are steep and hard work in heat. Parking at the beach is very limited in summer. The upper village has almost no services. The beach is shingle and busy in August.

Nearby

Lovran and the Lungomare are north; Ucka rises directly behind.
