Medulin

Medulin sits on a wide shallow bay at the southern end of Istria, and the shallows and the sandy bottom are why it developed as a family resort - the water stays warm and stays waist deep a long way out, which is unusual on a coast that is mostly rock. On the Vizula peninsula in the bay are the remains of a large Roman villa, partly submerged as the sea level rose, excavated and interpreted with a shore path. Along the coast to the south, at Cape Kamenjak, dinosaur footprints are preserved in the rock, and the whole cape is a protected area of coves and low cliffs.

Practical notes

It is a developed family resort, busy in high summer, with campsites along the shore. Parking near the water is difficult in season. Kamenjak has its own entry fee and limited vehicle access. The villa remains are subtle.
