Pulu Maraya is one of the string of uninhabited islets along the eastern rim of the Cocos atoll, low coral ground with coconut and native scrub on it and beach on both sides, lagoon on one and open ocean on the other. Nobody lives on any of them. Seabirds use the islets and the shallow water between them is some of the clearest in the lagoon. The whole eastern rim is uninhabited, and the islets along it are visited only by boat parties.

What you actually see

  • The two shores - lagoon on one side, open ocean on the other.
  • The scrub - native vegetation with the old plantation coconut through it.
  • The clear shallows - the water between the eastern islets.
  • The seabirds - the nesting on ground nobody uses.

When to go

April to October is drier with steadier trade winds. Boat access depends on lagoon conditions. The wet season brings heavier weather.

Honest expectations

Access is by charter boat only and needs arranging. There are no facilities and no shade beyond the palms. Landings on the ocean side are not practical.

Nearby

Pulu Blan Madar is nearby, and Home Island is west.
