The Old Government House in Road Town was the governor's residence from the 1920s until 1997, built after an earthquake and hurricane destroyed its predecessors, and it is now a museum: reception rooms furnished as they were, the governor's study, a collection of stamps and books, and displays on the territory's administration. The gardens run down towards the waterfront. It was damaged in 2017 and reopened after repairs. The building replaced earlier residences on the same site that were destroyed by earthquake in 1867 and by hurricane afterwards, which is why nothing older survives here.

December to May is the season. It closes at weekends and on public holidays. Cruise days bring more visitors.
