Harry Bayley Observatory

The Harry Bayley Observatory at Clapham was built in 1963 by the Barbados Astronomical Society and is the only public observatory in the eastern Caribbean, with a dome housing a reflector telescope and open evenings when the sky is clear. Barbados sits at thirteen degrees north, which puts southern constellations within reach that are not visible from Europe or most of North America. The observatory is named after a founder of the Barbados Astronomical Society and was closed for years before being restored and reopened in the 2010s. It also runs school programmes alongside the public evenings.
