Harrismith sits on Barbados's southeastern coast below the ruins of a great house on the clifftop, a beach of pale sand between headlands reached by a steep path down from the grassy top. The reef offshore takes some of the swell but the water is livelier than the west coast. The clifftop with its ruin and the view along the coast is as much the point as the sand.

When to go
December to May is the dry season. Swell on this coast is heaviest in the northern winter. Weekends bring local visitors.
Honest expectations
The path down is steep and slippery and the climb back is hard. Currents here are stronger than on the west coast. There are no facilities and the ruin is unstable.
