EntrySmall charge

The Myrabach drops around a hundred metres in a series of falls and cascades over a short distance above Muggendorf, and a path of wooden bridges, steps and galleries was built through it in the 1890s so it could be walked - up one side, crossing the water repeatedly, past the individual falls, and back down the other. The whole circuit takes about an hour and is one of the standard outings from Vienna, an hour or so away, particularly with children. What has made it distinctive more recently is the Advent programme, when the gorge is lit with candles and lanterns on winter evenings and walked in the dark, which fills the car park and needs booking. Above the falls the path continues towards the Hausstein and the Myrafall hut.

What you actually see

  • A hundred metres of cascades - the Myrabach dropping in a linked sequence.
  • Bridges and galleries - the 1890s route crossing and recrossing the water.
  • A one-hour circuit - up one side and back down the other.
  • Candlelit Advent evenings - the gorge lit and walked in the dark in December.

When to go

May to October; Advent evenings for the lit walks. Half a day.

Honest expectations

Closed in winter outside the Advent programme, and after storms. Boards are slippery. Advent evenings are heavily booked and the car park fills. It is short - an hour covers it.

Nearby

Muggendorf and the Piestingtal are at the foot; Hohe Wand is north.
