Daimari on Aruba's windward coast is reached down a rough track through the interior and there is nothing there: a beach between rocky points with the Atlantic breaking on it and the dry scrub of the interior running back inland. Wild donkeys and the horses used for riding trips come down to the shore. It is the least visited stretch of the island's coast. The wild donkeys descend from animals brought by the Spanish and left to run when they were no longer needed.

What you actually see

  • The empty beach - a shore with nothing built anywhere near it.
  • The wild donkeys - the animals that come down to the shore.
  • The windward surf - the Atlantic breaking on the rocky coast.
  • The interior track - the rough route in through the scrub.

When to go

December to April is the dry season. The windward coast is rough year round. Riding trips run in the morning before the heat.

Honest expectations

Swimming is dangerous on this coast and should not be attempted. The track needs four wheel drive and local knowledge. There is no shade, water or facility of any kind.

Nearby

The Natural Pool is southeast, and Arikok is south.
