Rendezvous Bay

Rendezvous Bay lies on Antigua's southern coast with no road to it: getting there means a rough track over the hills from Falmouth that needs a proper four-wheel drive, a boat round the coast, or a walk of about an hour each way. What is at the end is a long empty beach with nothing built on it at all, backed by scrub, which is exactly why people make the effort.

What you actually see

• The empty beach - a long stretch of sand with no building on it.
• The access problem - a bay with no road, reachable by track, boat or on foot.
• The scrub backing - the dry vegetation behind the sand.
• The southern coast - the shore running away in both directions.

When to go

December to April is the dry season. The track is difficult after rain. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Honest expectations

There is no shade, water or facility of any kind; everything must be carried. The track is genuinely rough and ordinary hire cars will not manage it. The walk is hot and unshaded.
