The highest point on Antigua rises to 402 metres in the southwestern hills and was renamed Mount Obama in 2009, on the American president's birthday; the old name Boggy Peak was formally restored in 2016. A rough track climbs to the summit, where communications masts stand, and from the top the view runs over the southern coast, the offshore islands and across to Montserrat and Guadeloupe when the air is clear.

When to go
December to April is the dry season and the clearest. The track is difficult after rain. Early morning is coolest for the climb.
Honest expectations
Communications masts and fencing occupy the summit, which spoils it for some. The track is rough and steep. There is no shade on the upper section.
