Ffryes Beach

Ffryes is a curve of pale sand on the southwestern coast below a bend in the road where a viewpoint looks straight down onto it, which is why the beach appears in so many photographs of Antigua. A beach bar at one end has become a fixture. The water is calm on the leeward side, the beach is broad and there is very little development beyond the bar and a car park at the top of the track.

Ffryes Beach, also called Big Ffryes Beach, lies in the hamlet of Ffryes in Saint Mary. Little Ffryes Beach, known as Coco Beach, adjoins it to the north, and the Tamarind Hills Resort stands to the south. The beach falls within the Leeward Islands xeric scrub ecoregion, below the Shekerley Mountains and close to Valley Road. Resorts, restaurants and villas are found in the surrounding area. One vote placed it 31st among the world's beaches for 2025.

When to go

December to April is the dry season and the busiest. Weekends bring local visitors. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Good to know

The beach fills at weekends and on cruise days. There is almost no natural shade. The track down from the road is rough.
