Ramsholmen in Jomala is a small reserve of deciduous woodland on a point of land, and its reputation rests on the wild garlic that covers the ground under the trees in May, white flowers across the whole floor with the smell filling the wood. Elm, ash and hazel grow above it. Paths run through the reserve and along the shore, and the adjoining Nabben area is part of the same protected ground.

What you actually see

  • The wild garlic - white flowers covering the woodland floor in May.
  • The deciduous trees - elm, ash and hazel above the ground flora.
  • The shore path - the route running along the water at the edge.
  • The Nabben area - the adjoining protected ground.

When to go

May is when the wild garlic flowers and the reason to come. June still has good leaf. Outside spring the reserve is unremarkable.

Honest expectations

The wild garlic season is short and outside it the reserve is ordinary woodland. It is small and two hours covers it. Mosquitoes in early summer are a nuisance.

Nearby

Mariehamn is southeast, and Önningeby is south.
