Foum El Bouir is one of the openings in the low cliff line on the Atlantic side of the Dakhla peninsula, where a break in the rock gives access down to a beach with the open ocean in front of it. The water is cold and the swell comes in unbroken. Surfers use this side of the peninsula when the conditions suit, and otherwise the beach is generally empty.

When to go
November to March is cooler. Swell on this side is strongest in winter. Fog off the cold water is common in any month.
Honest expectations
The water is cold enough to need a wetsuit and the current is strong. There are no facilities and no lifeguard. The track down is rough and needs care.
