Linh Quy Phap An is a small and recently built pagoda on a hilltop above Bao Loc, and what draws people is a stone terrace projecting from the hillside - the cong troi, gate of heaven - which on the right mornings stands above a valley filled with cloud so that the platform appears to end in sky. It was little known until a Vietnamese pop video was filmed there in 2016, after which visitor numbers rose sharply and the monks had to introduce rules about photography and behaviour. It is a working meditation site, and the queue for the platform is now part of the visit.

What you actually see

  • A stone platform over a valley - the gate of heaven.
  • Cloud filling the valley below - on the right mornings.
  • A small recent pagoda - the hilltop buildings are modest.
  • Rules after a 2016 video - on photography and behaviour.

When to go

October to March for the best chance of cloud, before sunrise. Half a day.

Honest expectations

The cloud is weather-dependent and many mornings there is none. The track up is steep and rough - most people take a motorbike taxi. There is a queue for the platform. It is a religious site, not a photo studio, and the monks say so.

Nearby

Bao Loc is north; Dambri waterfall is close to the town.
