Lang Co Beach

Lang Co is a strip of sand about ten kilometres long lying between the Lap An lagoon and the sea, with the mountains of the Bach Ma range behind and the Hai Van pass climbing immediately south - a geography that puts the beach, the lagoon, the road and the railway all in the same narrow corridor, which is why the train journey between Hue and Da Nang along here is regularly called one of the best rail sections in Asia. The lagoon behind is worked for oysters, whose shells are piled along the shore. Development along the strip has been heavy in the last decade.

What you actually see

• A sand bar between lagoon and sea - about ten kilometres long.
• The Hai Van pass immediately south - climbing from the beach.
• The Hue to Da Nang railway - running the same corridor.
• Oyster farming in the lagoon - with shells piled on the shore.

When to go

February to August; the monsoon runs from about September. Half a day.

Honest expectations

Resort building along the strip has been rapid and some of it is unfinished. The sea is dangerous in the monsoon. Road and rail noise carries along the bar. The lagoon smells at low tide in hot weather.
