The Jeyran centre occupies a fenced block of desert south of Bukhara, established in 1977 to breed the goitered gazelle, the jeyran, which had been shot out across much of its range, and it now holds kulan, Przewalski's horse and houbara bustard as well, with animals released from here into reserves elsewhere. Visits are by vehicle with a warden along tracks through the enclosure, and sightings are usually straightforward.

- The Przewalski's horses - the wild horses held as part of the programme.

When to go
April to May and September to October are the comfortable months. Early morning and late afternoon are best for animals. Summer heat is extreme.
Honest expectations
Visits must be arranged in advance and there is no walk-up access. The enclosure is fenced, so this is managed breeding rather than wild country. Summer heat is severe with no shade.
