Aguas Dulces is a row of small wooden and brick houses standing almost on the beach, a fishing settlement that grew into a modest summer village without ever being developed. Boats are drawn up on the sand, the beach runs a long way in both directions, and the sweet water the name refers to comes from springs behind the dunes. It is the base for reaching the Cabo Polonio dunes and the Castillos lagoon.

What you actually see

  • The beachfront houses - a line of small houses built almost onto the sand.
  • The fishing boats - working boats drawn up on the beach.
  • The long beach - open Atlantic sand running in both directions.
  • The springs - the fresh water behind the dunes that gave the village its name.

When to go

December to February is the season. Outside it the village is nearly empty. Atlantic weather here is changeable in any month.

Honest expectations

Facilities are minimal and the village nearly closes outside summer. The beach is exposed with strong currents and lifeguards only in season. Building on the sand has caused erosion problems.

Nearby

Barra de Valizas is south, and Laguna de Castillos is inland.
