Dzhuryn Waterfall

The Dzhuryn falls about sixteen metres over a limestone step in a side valley of the Dniester canyon, and it is usually described as the largest plains waterfall in Ukraine, which is fair enough given that the flat country around it. It is not entirely natural: the course was cut through in the sixteenth century to drive mills. Beside it stand the ruins of Chervonohorod, a palace built on the site of a medieval castle, with two gate towers left among the trees.

When to go

April to June, after the snowmelt, is when the fall runs hardest. By late summer it is much reduced. Weekends bring campers to the valley.

Before you go

Flow drops sharply in dry months and can disappoint. The path down is steep and slippery. There are no facilities and camping litter is a problem.
