Kelibia Fort

The fort above Kelibia stands on a rocky headland some 150 metres high at the northeastern tip of Cap Bon, on foundations going back to the Punic period, rebuilt by the Byzantines in the sixth century and extended by the Ottomans. From the walls the coast runs away in both directions and on a clear day Sicily, about a hundred and forty kilometres north, can be made out. The town below has a fishing port and a beach, and Kerkouane is a short drive north.

When to go

April to June and September to October are the most comfortable. Clear winter days give the best chance of seeing Sicily. Summer is hot with no shade on the walls.

What to expect

Sicily is only visible in exceptional conditions and most visitors will not see it. There is no shade on the walls. Interpretation inside the fort is minimal.
