Charlotteville

Charlotteville sits in Man O' War Bay at the northern end of Tobago, one of the largest natural harbours in the Caribbean, with steep forested hills coming down around it on three sides. It is a fishing village first, with the boats drawn up on the beach and the catch sold at the depot, and a quiet visitor trade second. Pirate's Bay, a small beach reached by a path and steps around the headland, is the local swimming spot.

When to go

January to May is driest. Fishing boats come in through the morning. The village is quiet year round and quietest outside the winter season.

What to expect

It is a long drive from the airport, an hour and a half or more on winding roads. Facilities are limited to small guesthouses and local eating places. The path to Pirate's Bay is steep.
