Mashta al-Helu - the name means roughly the sweet resting place - is a resort village in the greenest fold of the coastal mountains, known for springs, walnut and fruit trees, and the Dedeh cave, a show cave of chambers and formations in the limestone nearby. Hotels and summer houses climb the slopes; the air is cool, the water is everywhere, and families come up from the coast and the interior alike. It is the Tartus hills' answer to Slunfeh.
