Ristafallet is on the Indalsalven where the river runs wide and drops about fourteen metres over a lip roughly sixty metres across, so it is broad rather than tall - a curtain rather than a chute. Forest comes down to both banks and a path runs along the northern side with viewpoints at the lip and below. The fall was used as a location in the 1971 film of The Emigrants. Flow is at its strongest in spring after the melt, and the river carries considerable water year round. There is a campsite by the fall and the E14 passes close, which makes it an easy stop between Ostersund and Are rather than a destination.

Honest expectations
It is short and quickly seen. Rocks near the water are slippery. The campsite next door means traffic in summer. Tannforsen further west is the bigger fall.
