Boda Sand

Boda Sand runs for several kilometres along the north-eastern shore of Oland, backed by pine forest and dunes, with pale sand and water that stays shallow far out - you can wade a considerable distance before it reaches your waist, which is why families use it. It warms faster than most Swedish sea water for the same reason. A large campsite and resort sits at the main access point with the usual facilities, and the beach spreads out enough on either side that walking ten minutes finds space even in high season. Trollskogen, the twisted pine wood at the island's northern tip, is a short drive on.

When to go

June to August. A full day.

Honest expectations

July fills the campsite and the car parks. Outside summer the facilities close and the beach is windswept. The Baltic is cold even in August. Wind off the sea makes it feel colder than inland.
