Upper Seletar Reservoir Park

Upper Seletar was Singapore's second reservoir, completed in 1920, and the park along its southern edge is one of the quieter green spaces on the island: wide lawns under rain trees, a dam wall to walk, and a lookout tower built in the shape of a rocket that has stood since the 1960s and is climbed for the view across the water. It sits beside the Mandai wildlife parks and gets a fraction of their traffic.

What you actually see

• The rocket tower - a 1960s lookout shaped like a rocket, climbed for the view.
• The dam wall - a walk along the top of the reservoir dam.
• The rain tree lawns - wide open grass under mature trees.
• The quiet - one of the least busy parks on the island.

When to go

Year round; early morning and late afternoon are coolest. Afternoon storms are frequent. Weekdays are near empty.

Honest expectations

The park is plain and there is little to do beyond walk and sit. The rocket tower is dated and the view is over water and forest rather than anything dramatic. Public transport out here is limited.
