Bedok Reservoir Park

Bedok Reservoir was a sand quarry until the 1980s and is now a reservoir with a park round it, and its main function is exercise: a loop of about 4.3 kilometres runs the whole way round and is one of the most used running routes in Singapore, busy from before dawn. Kayaking and dragon boating operate from a watersports centre on the northern shore, and a fitness and adventure park sits at one corner.

History

The reservoir was announced in 1980 as part of a water supply scheme and converted from a sand quarry used by the Housing and Development Board; construction began in 1983 and it was completed in June 1985. It covers 880,000 m2 and holds 12.8 million m3, with a shoreline of 4.3 km (Wikipedia, Bedok Reservoir).

When to go

Year round; before dawn and after dark are when the loop is busiest with runners. Midday heat is severe with little shade. Afternoon storms clear the park.

Practical notes

There is very little shade on the loop and midday is punishing. The park is a fitness facility more than a scenic one. Weekend crowds are heavy.
