Old Airport Road Food Centre

Old Airport Road Food Centre serves the housing estate built on the site of Singapore's first civil airport, and it has an unusually high concentration of stalls that have been run by the same families for decades: char kway teow, lor mee, Hokkien mee, satay bee hoon, rojak and duck rice among them, several with reputations that reach across the island. It is a neighbourhood centre rather than a tourist one, which is why locals send people here.

When to go

Year round; lunchtime and early evening are busiest. Many of the best stalls sell out and close early. Stalls close on rotating days, so a specific target may not be open.

Individual stalls close on their own days and the best often sell out by mid-afternoon. Seats at peak times are scarce. It is a fifteen-minute walk from the MRT.
