Fiorentino

Fiorentino lies south of Monte Titano, one of the nine castelli, with the remains of the medieval Pennarossa tower on the hill above the village, a fortification that guarded the southern approach to the republic. The parish church and a few streets make up the settlement. The country around is farmland and the view runs south into the Montefeltro hills. The tower was held by the Malatesta before San Marino took the territory in the fifteenth century, and it was slighted rather than maintained afterwards. The castello now holds a few thousand people spread across several hamlets.
