Togitogiga is a set of low falls where a river drops in two or three steps into deep pools inside O Le Pupu-Pue National Park, with rock ledges around them and forest on both banks, and unlike the tall falls elsewhere on the island these are made for swimming: the pools are deep, the drops are jumpable and the site has changing rooms and picnic shelters. It was a bathing place for Samoan chiefs before the park existed.

What you actually see

  • The stepped falls - two or three low drops into deep pools.
  • The swimming pools - basins deep enough to swim and jump into.
  • The park setting - the site inside Samoa's first national park.
  • The chiefly history - a bathing place used before the park was created.

When to go

May to October is the drier season with safer water. Heavy rain raises the river and closes the pools. Weekends bring local visitors.

Honest expectations

The river rises fast after rain and the pools become dangerous. Facilities are basic and sometimes not maintained. Flow drops considerably late in the dry season.

Nearby

O Le Pupu-Pue National Park surrounds it, and the lava coast is south.
