Falls of Baleine

The Baleine falls drop around twenty metres into a rock pool near the northern tip of St Vincent, in country with no road, so the only way there is by boat along the leeward coast and then a landing on a stony beach followed by a wade a few minutes up the stream. The pool is deep and cold. Boats run as day trips from Kingstown and Villa, and landing depends entirely on the swell that day.

What you actually see

• The fall - around twenty metres dropping into the rock pool.
• The pool - deep cold water at the base, swum by most who get there.
• The boat approach - the run up the leeward coast past the volcano's flank.
• The wade in - the short walk up the stream from the landing beach.

When to go

December to May is the dry season and calmest for landing. Swell cancels trips regularly. The falls run year round.

Honest expectations

Landing is through surf onto stones and trips are cancelled when swell is up. The boat run is long and can be rough. There are no facilities anywhere at the site.
