The Grawa Wasserfall drops about eighty-five metres over a broad rock step in the upper Stubaital, and it is claimed as the widest waterfall in the eastern Alps - the water spreads across a hundred and fifty metres or so of rock rather than falling in a single column, which is what makes it look different from most alpine falls. A wooden platform and reclining benches were built directly in the spray zone on the basis that the fine water aerosol has a measurable effect on airways, and the site is marketed for that; whether or not one accepts the health claims, sitting in the drift on a hot day is pleasant. The WildeWasserWeg, a marked water-themed trail, runs through the valley past it, and the fall is a few minutes from the road.

What you actually see

  • The widest fall in the eastern Alps - spread across a broad rock step.
  • A spray platform - benches built in the aerosol zone below the fall.
  • The WildeWasserWeg - the water trail running through the upper valley.
  • A short approach - a few minutes from the road and car park.

When to go

May to October; strongest with snowmelt in late spring. Two hours.

Honest expectations

The health claims about the spray are marketing, not established fact. Flow drops in a dry late summer. The platform is wet by design - you will get damp. Parking charges apply.

Nearby

The Stubai glacier is at the head of the valley; Neustift is below.
