The Union trail runs from the forestry department headquarters north of Castries, a short interpretive loop through dry forest with labelled trees and a medicinal herb garden, and a small zoo on the site holds Saint Lucia parrots, agouti, iguanas and boa constrictors that cannot be released. It is the easiest introduction to the island's forest and its species, and it is close to the capital. The site doubles as the forestry department's headquarters, which is where trail permits for the interior are issued.

When to go
December to April is the dry season. The site keeps set hours and closes at weekends in part. Mornings are cooler for the trail.

The zoo is small and the enclosures are basic. The trail is short and easy rather than a real forest walk. Opening hours are limited.
