Nelson was stationed in the Leewards as a young captain and married Frances Nisbet on Nevis in 1787, and the museum at Belle Vue outside Charlestown holds what is described as one of the largest Nelson collections in the Americas: letters, prints, ceramics, memorabilia and material on his enforcement of the Navigation Acts, which made him deeply unpopular with the island's merchants at the time. The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society runs it alongside the Hamilton house in Charlestown.

The museum is small and the displays are dated in places. It is some way outside Charlestown for walking in the heat. Opening hours are limited and worth confirming.
