Eden Brown Estate

Eden Brown was a sugar estate whose great house went up around 1740 and passed through several owners in the nineteenth century, and the story told on Nevis is that a groom and his best man fought a duel on the wedding day and both died, and that the bride, Miss Huggins, never recovered; her ghost is said to haunt the grounds. The stone shell stands roofless in scrub on the island's eastern side. It is the island's best known ghost story.

When to go

December to April is the dry season. Daylight only, for practical reasons as much as any other. The site is on open ground.

Good to know

The ruins are unstable and unfenced and entering them is unwise. There is no interpretation and the track in is overgrown. The duel story is folklore rather than documented history.
