Pinney's Beach

Pinney's runs for around six kilometres up the Caribbean side of Nevis north of Charlestown, a long strip of pale sand backed by coconut palms with the water calm on this leeward coast and St Kitts visible across The Narrows. The Four Seasons occupies part of it and beach bars are scattered along the rest, of which Sunshine's, known for its rum punch, is the best known. The estate the beach is named for was one of the largest on Nevis and its owners were among the wealthiest planters in the region.

What you actually see

• The length - around six kilometres of continuous pale sand.
• The palm backing - the coconut stand running behind the beach.
• The St Kitts view - the neighbouring island across The Narrows.
• The beach bars - the scattered places along the sand, Sunshine's included.

When to go

December to April is the dry season. The leeward coast is calm year round. Weekends and cruise days bring crowds to the middle section.

Honest expectations

Sargassum washes up in some seasons and can be heavy. Parts of the beach front the resort and feel private in practice. Sandflies at dusk are a real nuisance.
