Pinney's Beach

Pinney's runs for around five kilometres up the Caribbean side of Nevis north of Charlestown to Cades Bay, a long strip of pale sand backed by coconut palms with the water calm on this leeward coast and St Kitts visible across The Narrows. The Four Seasons occupies part of it and beach bars are scattered along the rest, of which Sunshine's, known for its rum punch, is the best known. The beach takes its name from Pinneys Estate, a plantation owned in the nineteenth century by the Pinney family, who lived on Nevis for several generations.

When to go

December to April is the dry season. The leeward coast is calm year round. Weekends and cruise days bring crowds to the middle section.

Things to know

Sargassum washes up in some seasons and can be heavy. Parts of the beach front the resort and feel private in practice. Sandflies at dusk are a real nuisance.
