EntryNational park pass

Greta Beach sits at the bottom of the cliff on the east coast, reached by a stairway and a ladder that drop through the rainforest to a small bay of coarse sand and rock. Red crabs come down this way in their tens of thousands during the migration and the route is closed at those times. Green turtles nest here and the sea caves at the northern end can be reached at low water.

What you actually see

  • The cliff stairway - the steep descent through the forest to the sand.
  • The crab route - the way tens of thousands come down in the migration.
  • The sea caves - the openings at the northern end reachable at low water.
  • The turtle nesting - the green turtles that use the beach.

When to go

May to November is the dry season and the descent is safest. The crab migration between October and January closes access. Swell makes the bay unusable at times.

Honest expectations

The ladder and stairway are steep and the climb back is hard work. Access is closed during the crab migration and this is not negotiable. Swimming is dangerous when any swell is running.

Nearby

Dolly Beach is south, and Margaret Knoll is north.
