Grand Fond Natural Pools

On the southeast coast at Grand Fond the land ends in a rock shelf that the Atlantic works directly, and set into it are pools the sea fills and clears, deep enough to get into when the swell is down. The walk out from the road is over uneven rock and takes twenty minutes or so. This is the wildest coast on the island, with nothing built along it.

When to go

December to April is the dry high season. The pools are only usable when the swell is down. Mornings are cooler for the walk.

Honest expectations

This is dangerous when the swell is running: waves come across the shelf and people are swept off rocks like these. The walk is rough with no shade. There are no facilities and no phone signal in places.
