Ndaba Falls comes down a steep rock face directly beside the main road from Muhanga to Karongi, high and thin, dropping in stages through vegetation into the valley below. It is a stop rather than a destination: there is a lay-by, sellers with fruit, and the view straight up at the water. A local story attaches the fall to a man named Ndaba who is said to have jumped from the top rather than be taken.

What you actually see

  • The fall - a tall thin drop down the rock face beside the road.
  • The valley - the terraced hills the water drops into.
  • The lay-by - the roadside stop with sellers and the view up.
  • The Ndaba story - the local tradition attached to the cliff.

When to go

March to May and September to November, the rainy seasons, give the strongest flow. In the dry months it reduces to a thread. Morning light is better on the face.

Honest expectations

The flow drops sharply in the dry season and can be barely visible. It is a ten-minute roadside stop with nothing else there. Sellers can be persistent.

Nearby

Karongi is west on the lake, and Muhanga is east.
