Voile de la Mariee

The Voile de la Mariée, the bride's veil, is a set of thin waterfalls spreading down a cliff face beside the road into the Cirque de Salazie, the water fanning out over the rock rather than falling in a single column, which is where the name comes from. A local legend about a bride's veil attaches to it. There is roadside parking directly below and the falls are seen without walking, which makes it the most photographed stop on the road in.

When to go

Strongest after rain, which on this side of the island is frequent. The dry season from May to November reduces the flow considerably. Mornings are clearest.

Good to know

Flow drops a great deal in dry spells and the veil can be reduced to trickles. The parking is a narrow strip on a busy road. Rockfall from the cliff is a real hazard and the area is sometimes closed.
