The Waterfalls of Samoa

Beyond its beaches, the lush, green and mountainous interior of Samoa is threaded with beautiful waterfalls, offering a refreshing contrast to the coast. On Upolu, the towering Papapapaitai Falls plunge dramatically over a cliff into a jungle gorge, viewed from a roadside lookout, while the Sopoaga and Togitogiga falls tumble into inviting pools amid rainforest and gardens, some safe for swimming. On the larger, wilder island of Savai'i, more cascades and blowholes await. When to go

May to October, the drier season, for the best access and weather, though the falls flow most powerfully after rain; the wet season makes them fuller but the roads and trails muddier. Many falls sit on village land, so a small custom fee is often paid, and swimming is possible at some, such as Togitogiga.
