Zloty Potok Valley

Zloty Potok is a valley in the Jura where karst springs come up in quantity and feed a chain of ponds along the Wiercica stream, and the water is cold and clean enough that in 1881 Michal Ostrowski established what is generally described as the first trout farm in Poland here, using the springs; the ponds are still worked and trout is sold and served locally. The valley is laid out as a landscape park with paths, the ponds, limestone outcrops including the Brama Twardowskiego rock gate, springs named Zygmunt and Elzbieta, and a small waterfall. The Krasinski manor in the park belonged to the family of the Romantic poet Zygmunt Krasinski, who stayed here, and it is now a museum. It is a gentle place - flat walking, water, rock and trees - and it is one of the better half-days in the Czestochowa Jura, busy on weekends and quiet otherwise.

Before you go

Weekends bring crowds from Czestochowa and Silesia. The museum keeps limited hours and closes on Mondays. The waterfall is small. Parking near the park fills.
