Legendia Silesian Amusement Park

The amusement park at Chorzow has been operating since the late 1950s inside the Silesian Park, a very large green area created on reclaimed industrial ground between Katowice and Chorzow. For decades it was a period piece of Polish leisure; it has since been rebranded as Legendia and rebuilt in stages around a theme of Polish legends. The headline ride is a large steel coaster opened in 2017 with a long, wooded layout that ranks among the better rides in the region. Around it sits a mix of newer family attractions and older machines from the park's earlier decades, which gives the place an uneven but distinctive character.

What you actually see

• The main coaster - the park's flagship ride, a long layout threading through the trees at the far end.
• The themed zones - areas built around Polish legends, with a water ride and a dark ride among them.
• The older rides - surviving attractions from earlier decades, dated but part of the park's identity.
• The Silesian Park setting - mature woodland around the site, with the wider park's paths and lake beyond.

When to go

The park operates seasonally, roughly from spring to autumn, with limited opening days at the start and end of the season, so check the calendar before travelling. July and August weekends are the busiest. Weekdays in June and September are noticeably calmer. Evenings towards closing time often have the shortest queues of the day.

Honest expectations

It is much smaller than Energylandia and some rides show their age, so visitors comparing the two are usually disappointed here. Opening days outside high summer are limited and irregular. Queues concentrate on the two or three good rides while the rest stay empty. Food is basic and overpriced, and the walk in from the tram stops across the park is longer than it looks.

The Silesian Park's zoo, planetarium and open air museum are all within walking distance, and Katowice is fifteen minutes away.
