EntrySmall entrance fee per garden; several separate farms operate

Sirao is a farming barangay in the hills behind Cebu City where growers supply the cut-flower trade - chrysanthemums, roses and above all celosia, the plumed flower whose dense red, orange and yellow spikes fill the terraced beds. When the fields are in bloom the growers charge a small fee to walk among them and photograph, and the resulting nickname, Little Amsterdam, is the sort of comparison that only survives if nobody has been to Amsterdam. Several separate farms now operate side by side with their own gates and fees, some with added platforms, swings and props. The blooms are seasonal and cut for market, so timing matters enormously: outside the flowering period the terraces are bare soil or seedlings, and visitors arriving in the wrong month find nothing. The Transcentral Highway up from the city is winding, and the Temple of Leah and Busay restaurants are on the same road.

What you actually see

  • The celosia beds - terraces of plumed red and orange flowers.
  • The hill terraces - the growing plots cut into the slope.
  • The photo platforms - props and decks added by the farms.
  • The cut-flower work - growers harvesting for the market.

When to go

Around October to January is the usual peak, but the growers cut for market and cycles vary - ask locally or check recent photographs before travelling, since bare fields are a real possibility.

Honest expectations

The flowers are seasonal and can be entirely absent. Several farms charge separate fees on the same hillside. The Little Amsterdam framing is marketing. The road up is winding and traffic is heavy at weekends.

Nearby

The Temple of Leah and the Cebu Taoist Temple are on the same hillside; Cebu City is forty minutes below.
