Masungi Georeserve
A conservation area in the Rizal limestone where the trail runs over rope webs and hanging bridges strung between karst pinnacles.

Masungi is a stretch of sharp limestone karst in the foothills of the Sierra Madre that was quarried and logged for years and has been under restoration since the 1990s. The Discovery Trail is the way visitors see it: a fixed guided route of three to four hours that climbs over and between the pinnacles on steel walkways, hanging bridges and two structures that have become the reserve's signature - Sapot, a steel web spread over a drop, and Duyan, a rope hammock slung across a gap wide enough to feel. There is no swimming and no shortcut. Groups leave at fixed times, numbers are capped, and the whole thing works more like a booked ticket than a walk in the hills.
What you actually see
- Sapot - the steel spider web platform anchored over a drop between limestone pinnacles.
- Duyan - the long rope hammock strung across a gap, walked in single file.
- The karst pinnacles - grey limestone teeth left standing above regrowing forest.
- The Sierra Madre view - the ridgeline and the reservoir seen from the higher platforms.
When to go
The dry months from November to April are safest on the metal and rope, which get slick in rain. Morning slots start early and finish before the worst heat. Reservations open on a schedule and weekend slots go quickly, often weeks ahead, so treat this as something to book long before you travel rather than a drop-in.
Honest expectations
It is expensive by Philippine standards and there are no walk-ins, no swimming and no deviation from the route. Four hours of scrambling in humidity is genuinely tiring, and the exposure on the web and the hammock is not for everyone. Group sizes mean queuing at the two photogenic structures. The road out from Manila is heavily trafficked at weekends.
Nearby
Daranak Falls and the Tanay uplands are within an hour.
