Arinta Waterfalls

The Arinta falls at Ipole-Iloro come down the Ekiti hillside in a series of stages through forest, with the main drop into a pool at the base and further tiers above reached by climbing beside the water. A path with steps and handrails leads in from the road through trees, taking fifteen to twenty minutes to the first level. The pool is used for swimming. The site sits close to the Ikogosi springs and the two are usually visited together on the same day. Development has been modest, with a gate, steps and some shelters, and maintenance has varied over the years. The forest around holds birds and butterflies.

What you actually see

• The main drop - the principal fall into its pool.
• Upper tiers - the further stages climbed beside the water.
• The forest path - the approach walk in from the road.
• The pool - the swimming basin at the base.

When to go

September to December after the rains for the fullest flow; the falls reduce considerably by February and March. Weekdays are quiet, weekends busier. Mornings are cooler for the walk.

Honest expectations

Flow can be weak in the dry season. The climb to the upper tiers is steep and slippery. Facilities are basic and maintenance has been intermittent. Entry and camera fees are charged separately.
