Tinjure Milke Jaljale
A long ridge in the eastern hills carrying dozens of rhododendron species, called Nepal's rhododendron capital.

The ridge running north from Basantapur through Tinjure, Milke and Jaljale carries what is usually described as the largest concentration of rhododendron species in Nepal, more than two dozen of them including the national flower, lali gurans, growing in stands that cover whole hillsides and flower through March and April in reds, pinks and whites. Walking the ridge takes three to six days at moderate altitude, with homestays and simple lodges in villages and community-run camps, and views north to Makalu and Kanchenjunga on clear mornings. Outside the flowering weeks the ridge is quiet green forest and the trek is pleasant but unremarkable, so timing matters more here than on most routes.
What you actually see
- Rhododendron forest in flower - hillsides of red and pink in spring.
- The ridge walk - three to six days at moderate altitude.
- Makalu and Kanchenjunga - the peaks north on clear mornings.
- Village homestays - community accommodation along the route.
When to go
March and April for the flowering, which is the whole point; the peak shifts with altitude and season, so timing needs local advice. October and November give clear views without flowers. Monsoon brings leeches.
Honest expectations
Outside the flowering weeks the ridge is ordinary forest. Accommodation is homestays and basic camps, sparse in places. Access from Kathmandu is a flight plus a long road journey. Trails are unmarked and a guide helps.
Nearby
Basantapur is the usual start; Chainpur lies northeast.
