Ewa Beach

Ewa is one of the northern districts and the beach there is a stretch of coral sand between the ring road and the reef flat, with coconut behind and pinnacles of weathered limestone standing along parts of the shore. It is quiet, as most of the north of Nauru is. The water inside the reef is shallow and the break is well out. Nauru has no rivers and no natural harbour, so the reef flat is the whole of the coastal shallows.

What you actually see

• The coral sand - the beach between the road and the reef flat.
• The limestone pinnacles - the weathered rock standing along the shore.
• The shallow lagoon - the water inside the reef edge.
• The coconut - the palms along the back of the beach.

When to go

March to October is the drier season. November to February brings westerly weather. Tide governs the reef flat.

Honest expectations

The reef is sharp and shoes are needed. Currents beyond the reef edge are dangerous. There are no facilities of any kind along this stretch.
