Princess Antoinette Park

The Princess Antoinette park sits in the heights above Monaco, laid out around a grove of old olive trees, some of them said to be several centuries old, with a playground, a small farm enclosure with goats and rabbits for children, and paths through the planting. It is a working local park rather than a formal garden and it is where Monégasque families take their children. The park is named after Prince Rainier's sister and was laid out in the 1950s.

Background

The park is a municipal park of the Jardin Exotique ward. Princess Antoinette, after whom it is named, was the elder sister of Rainier III. The park's theme is the olive, treated here as a sacred tree. Each year at the end of June the Municipality of Monaco holds an open-air meal in the park, keeping up the Monegasque tradition of picnics. Its mini-golf reopened in 2021 and is a regular meeting place for local families.
