The park at Țaul was laid out from 1901 around a manor house built for the Pommer family, designed by a Kyiv landscape architect on some forty six hectares with a system of terraces, ponds and planted groups running down a valley, and it holds around a hundred and fifty tree and shrub species from several continents. It is the largest park of its kind in Moldova. The manor itself has been in poor repair for years.
What you actually see
- The terraces and ponds - the landscape design running down the valley.
- The tree collection - around a hundred and fifty species from several continents.
- The manor house - the Pommer building at the head of the park.
- The scale - some forty six hectares, the largest such park in the country.
When to go
April to October is the season for the planting. October gives the best autumn colour. Winter is bleak and the paths are muddy.
Honest expectations
The manor house is derelict and has been for decades. Maintenance of the park is uneven and parts are overgrown. There are no facilities on site.
Nearby
Dondușeni is south, and Rudi is northeast.
