Xcaret Park

Xcaret is the Riviera Maya distilled into one enormous, polished day. Built around a genuine Maya port site - the ruins of Pole, departure point for pilgrimages to Cozumel - the park layers a natural cove, jungle and inlets into a catalogue of the region's pleasures: its signature underground rivers, where visitors float and snorkel half-kilometre courses through lit caverns and open channels; a Caribbean cove of beach, lagoon and aquarium; wildlife exhibits running from jaguars and flamingos to a butterfly dome, aviary, and a sea-turtle program of genuine conservation weight; and cultural set pieces - a recreated Maya village, hacienda, chapel and the Voladores' spinning pole - staged through the day. Honest expectations

It is a premium-priced, high-volume operation - crowds are engineered for but present. Photography packages and extras upsell constantly. Reef-safe sunscreen only; lockers and logistics eat early time, so plan the rivers first.
