Couleuvre Waterfall

The Cascade Couleuvre drops around a hundred and twenty metres into a pool in the forest above Le Prêcheur on the northwestern flank of Mount Pelée, and the walk in follows a stream up through tall rainforest with buttressed trees and heliconias for around forty minutes. The pool below the fall can be swum in and the spray keeps the whole basin cool. The trail starts near Anse Céron and is one of the easier forest walks in the north.

What you actually see

• The fall - a drop of around a hundred and twenty metres into the pool below.
• The rainforest walk - forty minutes up through tall northern forest.
• The plunge pool - cold water at the base, deep enough to swim.
• The stream route - the water followed for most of the way in.

When to go

December to April is drier with better footing. Heavy rain raises the stream and closes the trail. Mornings are best before afternoon showers.

Honest expectations

The trail is muddy and slippery after rain, which is often. There are stream crossings that can become difficult. Facilities are a car park and nothing more.
